Letter from Harvard Professors to Dr. Condoleezza RiceH.A. Huskamp, etc. December 15, 2004
The Honorable Condoleezza Rice
Dear Dr. Rice,
We are writing to thank you for your ongoing effort on behalf of Dr. Yang Jianli, who has been detained in China since April 2002. In your letter to his wife, Dr. Christina Fu, dated March 2003, you wrote that the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing have passed Chinese authorities on the case. We greatly appreciate the efforts undertaken on this issue, particularly in light of Dr. Yang Jianli’s current serious medical condition. As you may know, he suffered a stroke in July of 2004. On a recent visit by his brother and sister, he reported that he has continued to experience numbness on his left side and is not receiving adequate medical case. Dr. Christina Fu is valued member of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Health Care Policy. Dr. Fu has worked here almost a decade as a researcher and statistical programmer. Again, we greatly appreciate your ongoing efforts on behalf of Dr. Yang Jianli, his wife Christina, and their children. We hope that you will continue these efforts after you are confirmed as Secretary of State. Please let us know if we can do anything as citizens to assist in securing Dr. Yang’s release and safe return to the United States. Sincerely,
Haiden A. Huskamp, Ph.D.
